Oktoberfest 2017

Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival, has got the beer flowing again in the Philippines as it kicked off early in September for a month-long celebration of all things good: food, beer and music.

San Miguel Oktoberfest Kicks Off

With a theme dubbed DiverCity (a play of the words diverse and city), the Oktoberfest, hosted by the leading beer brand in the country, San Miguel, opened on Sept. 13 at the Mall of Asia Arena. For this year, the festival aims to celebrate diversity, by bringing in a wide variety of music, entertainment and activities for all types of party-goers.

The festivity was officially kick-started by international DJ duo, The Chainsmokers. This was followed by the second leg of the event held at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, where music and beer overflowed. A diverse set of DJs graced the stage from international EDM hitmakers Zedd, Sam Feldt and Hardwell to the country’s own Mark Marasigan and Deuce (a.k.a Patty Tiu).

If you have missed both of these events, you can still party and raise your glasses on these dates:

October 6 – Thunderbird Resorts Rizal

October 14 & 28 – Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point

October 14 – Laguna Central, Greenfield City

October 20 – Forza Underground MMA Battle, Ynares Sports Arena

German Club Manila Oktoberfest

This year marks the 79th year of celebrating Oktoberfest in the Philippines, where in-demand bands, music artists, and DJs, both here and abroad, don the stage while everyone enjoys non-stop beer drinking and dancing.

However, if you’d rather experience a near-authentic Bavarian beer festival, the German Club Manila will celebrate the occasion on Oct. 6 & 7 at Sofitel Manila. Dress in your traditional Bavarian outfit and feast on authentic German buffet with unlimited free flowing beer at the CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay. Festival starts at 6 pm.

History of Oktoberfest

The fabled Oktoberfest started as a celebration of the marriage of King Ludwig I of Bavaria to Princess Theresia. Although it was not a common practice, the public was invited to join the festivities which were held over five days in Munich. Since then, celebrations were held annually, and each time, it becomes larger and more elaborate. Today, Oktoberfest is drawing in more than six million people every year and many celebrations across the globe are modeled after it.
